Slave or Not?

Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration commemorating the ending of slavery in the United States. Dating back to 1865, it was on June 19th that the Union soldiers, led by Major General Gordon Granger, landed at Galveston, Texas with news that the war had ended and that the enslaved were now free. Note that this was two and a half years after President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation – which had become official January 1, 1863. The Emancipation Proclamation had little impact on the Texans due to the minimal number of Union troops to enforce the new Executive Order. However, with the surrender of General Lee in April of 1865, and the arrival of General Granger’s regiment, the forces were finally strong enough to influence and overcome the resistance.

Later attempts to explain this two and a half-year delay in the receipt of this important news have yielded several versions that have been handed down through the years. Often told is the story of a messenger who was murdered on his way to Texas with the news of freedom. Another, is that the news was deliberately withheld by the enslavers to keep up the labor force on the plantations. And still another, is that federal troops actually waited for the slave owners to reap the benefits of one last cotton harvest before going to Texas to enforce the Emancipation Proclamation. All of which, or neither of these version could be true.  For whatever the reasons, conditions in Texas, to keep things as they were, well beyond what was statutory.

General Order Number 3

One of General Granger’s first orders of business was to read to the people of Texas, General Order Number 3 which began most definitely with:

“The people of Texas are informed that in accordance with a Proclamation from the Executive of the United States, all slaves are free. This involves an absolute equality of rights and rights of property between former masters and slaves, and the connection heretofore existing between them becomes that between employer and free laborer.”

Freedom Celebration

The reactions to this profound news ranged from pure shock to immediate jubilation. While many lingered to learn of this new employer to employee relationship, many left before these offers were completely off the lips of their former ‘masters’ – attesting to the varying conditions on the plantations and the realization of freedom. Even with nowhere to go, many felt that leaving the plantation would be their first grasp of freedom. North was a logical destination and for many it represented true freedom, while the desire to reach family members in neighboring states drove the some into Louisiana, Arkansas and Oklahoma. Settling into these new areas as free men and women brought on new realities and the challenges of establishing an heretofore non-existent status for black people in America. Recounting the memories of that great day in June of 1865 and its festivities would serve as motivation as well as a release from the growing pressures met in their new territory. The celebration of June 19th was coined “Juneteenth” and grew with more participation from descendants. The Juneteenth celebration was a time for reassuring each other, for praying and for gathering remaining family members. Juneteenth continued to be highly revered in Texas decades later, with many former slaves and descendants making an annual pilgrimage back to Galveston on this date.

The freedom message reached different parts of African-American Slaves on various dates between 1863-1864

The Thirteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution abolished slavery and involuntary servitude, except as punishment for a crime. It was passed by the Senate on April 8, 1864, by the House on January 31, 1865, and adopted on December 6, 1865. On December 18, 1865, Secretary of State William H. Seward proclaimed its adoption. It was the first of the three Reconstruction Amendments adopted following the American Civil War.

So now knowing that, are you slave or free? I would say I am free, but is that really the truth? You would say you are free, but is that really true?

According to us, yes it’s true. So freedom it is. Does that make it so because we say so. Does that mean we are because laws and constitutions say we are? Does that make it so? If your parent tells you to do something,  do you have to do it? If you don’t what happens? If the Mayor of a city tells you to do something and you don’t, what happens? When the Governor tells you to do something and you don’t, what happens? If the police tells you to do something and you don’t what happens? If your doctor tells you to do something and you don’t, what happens? Are you getting the point? So are we really free?   We are free physically, but are we free mentally? Many of us say, yes. Some of us are. But the majority of us are not. Some of us remember things, some of us do things, and some of us live through things. Some of the things we go through causes us to wonder are we really free?  Being free to do as you please can cause some of us to lose our freedom!  Is our minds really free? No we worry about all sorts of things.  We worry about tomorrow, when we shouldn’t. W e worry about things that we fear when we shouldn’t. We worry about what the day or night may bring, when we shouldn’t. So are we free?

The US slaves were set free, but worries about the unknown, caused doubt.  When given a chance to enjoy real freedom  most were hesitant. How would you react? Or would you choose to stay in the same old situation, because of fear of the unknown. Some have never experienced slavery, but most have; rather they know it or not!  It starts in the mind. Slavery has to be in  the mind of the person.  You can be a slave and be free, or you can be free and still be a slave!

Speaking of Slavery!

Every major ancient civilization depended heavily on the service of slaves, conquered people set to a variety of tasks by their masters.  The scripture states that the Hebrews became slaves of the Egyptians,  under whom they carried out forced labor ‘in mortar, in brick, and all manner of services in the field’. Exodus 1:8-14

During the time of Apostle  Paul the in the Roman empire over half the population or more may have been slaves.  Depending  on the interest of the ruling masters. Joseph was sold as a slave to the Egyptian Potiphar.

Then Daniel and other young Hebrew males were taken into captivity to Babylon., where they were trained for high levels of government services.                                                                                                Daniel 1:1-7, 18-21

The majority of slaves in those days were often used as property to be bought and sold as needed. Males were often assigned construction  or in mines to dig and worked so until exhausted to death. The women were maid servant, were usually sold to well to do men for service to their wives or daughters . But most were used for sexual pleasures for men.

But not all slavery was between nations, according to the Old Testaments the Israelites had both Jewish and Gentile slaves. The Jews who were too poor to pay their debts or who were convicted of theft sometimes sold themselves into slavery. In  contrast to other cultures of the day the Jewish law protected slaves and even granted them certain rights.                                                                                                          Exodus 21:2-11, Leviticus.25:39-55, Deuteronomy.21:10-14

If you would like to know more , it all located in the Bible.

However, I must say, when it comes to slavery, it can be a terrible thing for anyone. Being a slave is no fun! Being used against your will is terrible for the one being used. I know in the US slavery was a welcomed entity, however some greatly opposed the Institution of Slavery. If I may, I would like everyone reading this article to take a moment; stop reading and close your eyes and think back. Now let your mind wonder what would have been if….. or  place yourself in the moment, and time. Let yourself become a slave. Go back to the plantation and  stand before your master and go inside the mind and body of a slave. You for a moment become the slave. Look upon your master’s face and see his frowns, and the yelling and the whip sliding across your back. Stop and look at your children being snatched away from you, to be sold right before your eyes. Look at your wife being sold, or your husband being sold. You hear your daughter screaming from the barn, while she is being raped by  the massa or the massa’s son. ALL YOU CAN DO IS STAND THERE AND ENDURE THE PAIN. You are waken up every day around 4:00 am to go into the fields to pick and package cotton. Your fingers hurt, your back hurt, your legs hurt and your stomach hurts. No where to run, nowhere to hide. You are A SLAVE, and you ain’t nothin but a black nigger, who deserves to be treated like a nothing and a nobody. You hear all the names you are being called, you hear about all the beatings they enjoy giving, you hear about all the lynchings. But what can you do! What can you do!  The only thing you can do is PRAY!  You have no identity anymore, you have no home anymore, you have your heritage stolen, you have you history stolen, you are nothing and nobody but a slave. You work, work, work and work for them but where is your wealth! It’s been stolen too. Now you can come back. Now why do you hate  me? Can you feel the hurt and the pain. That’s the story of a slave!

Steal Away, Steal Away to Jesus

We’ll stand the storm

 Sweet Canaan

“Go down Moses Way down in Egypt land. Tell  ole Pharoah, Let my people go”

slavery-black-slaves-back-littered-with-scars-from-whipping[1] “O, freedom over me. And before I’d be a slave I’ll be buried in my grave An go home to my Lord An’ be free”

But God is forgiving and so are we!

God has forgiven!

Now as for slaves, I can be a slave, you can be a slave, we all can be slaves, to the unforseen!  We could all be slaves behind money, or a slave to drugs, strong drinks, sex, racism, a slave to hatred, a slave to the anti-christ spirit. We could be a slave to a lawlessness rebellious nature. Then again we can be a slave to deceiving others, or a slave to lying to others, or a slave of being attracted to the same-sex person, or a slave to bad addictions, a slave to corruption, or maybe a slave to sin. Maybe you can have a murdering spirit, anger, or suicidal, or a slave to divination, of fear of thing and other people. There are so, so many things you can be a slave to. So that is why I said earlier;  Are we  really free. I know some of us are slave free. We have no slave in us or over us. But for some of us we are a slave to something. The things that we are a slave to, can be to the death of us. Say for instance you would like to get rid of your slave, but you can’t, because it’s so hard to depart yourself from your slave, when you think about all the profit you will lose.

Back to slavery: Once the slaves were declared free it was so hard for some to walk away. Addictions can be as addictive as slavery. Both were and is so hard to let go, to get rid of. If you are addicted too any thing you can stop being addicted over night you usually have to go and get some help. So being a slave to something or someone is not healthy.

Remove the chain of prisoners, who are chained unjustly. Free those who are abused!

These are all some type of addiction, so if addicted then “You Are A Slave”.

1. Being a slave is hurtful.

2. It destroys you and others.

3. Being a slave is losing something dear to you.

4. Being a slave is TO BE  taken away from the things you love.

5. Being a slave is having no say so about anything.

6. Being a slave, you have to do as your master tell you.

7. Being a slave is a killer.

8. Being a slave is having your real identity taken away from you!

9.  Being a slave means you have no life, but the life your master has chosen for you.

10. Being a slave takes away your pride., self – identity and  originality of the person you once were!

I’m sure you know what I mean. When you become a slave you lose all of self you belong to what ever or whom has the control or power over you. So can you imagine how slaves in US history must have felt. You were somebody in your homeland,  then you came here as a slave and lost everything, your identity, your namesake, your family, our health, your culture, you get the idea.

“And ye shall hallow the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof: it shall be a jubilee unto you and ye shall return every man unto his possessions, and ye shall return every man unto his family.” Leviticus 25:10 KJV

Many of our ancestors were brought here more than  one hundred years ago: many of our Fathers, many of ourselves have fought and bled for the independence of our country. Do not expose us to sale. Let not the spirit of the father behold the son robbed of that liberty which he died to establish, but let the motto of our legislature be: The law knows no distinction”. James Forten (1766-1842)

I know some of you are asking today, ‘How long will it take?” I come to say to you this afternoon however difficult the moment, however frustrating the hour, it will not be long, because truth pressed to earth will rise again. How long? Not long, because no lie can live forever. How long? Not long because you reap what you sow. How long? Not long, because the arm of the moral universe is long, but it hands toward justice.” Martin Luther King Jr. (1929-1968)

Freedom is a hard-fought thing and millions are in chains, but they strain towards the new day drawing near. Paul Roberson (1898-19760)

Your petitioner therefore prays your Honorable Court to grant him leave to sue as a poor person, in order to establish his right to freedom. Dred Scott (1795-1858)

BUT !  THERE WAS AND IS ONE AND ONLY ONE-WAY OUT!  HOPE IN JESUS CHRIST. Some chose to die at their own hand than to suffer at the hands of their slave owners. BUT THE HERO’S WAY OUT WAS TO ACCEPT JESUS CHRIST INTO YOUR LIKE AND BELIEVE, HE WOULD COME THROUGH FOR YOU! SO ITS TIME NOW TO GIVE IT TO JESUS CHRIST!

In every human  Breast, God has implanted a Principle, which we call Love and Freedom; it is impatient of Oppression, and pants for Deliverance; and by the Leave of our Modern Egyptians I will assert, that the same Principle lives within us.                                                          Phillis Wheatley (1753-1784)

When the day comes and you have been set free – YOU REJOICE! Because you have been set free!

Father, Oh, Lord Our God and Saviour Jesus Christ, we call upon you Father to heal the land and Father please set your captives free. Lord on High we need you to day, Lord we Thank You today. God you are our Father and we need you in our live so that we can live for you. Lord we need you in our live to see the world and the people in it through Your eyes. Lord you are Our Keeper, Our Deliverer, Our Protector, and Our Master. Lord Our Father, help us humble ourselves so that we may be able to love others as you love us. Lord Jesus please God, keep us in Your hands so that we may not destroy each other. Lord kill the hatred in each of us. Lord help the world heal. Lord and I pray for the heads of states and the heads of the nation. Lord please clean their hearts, help them understand that we were created to serve you in the Highest.  Lord let them see that every decision affects the masses. So Lord help them turn from their wicked ways and turn to You once again. In Jesus ‘ Name I Pray Amen, Amen, and Amen!!! Father heal the Land!

What’s Going On? What’s Not Going On?

Too much going on, but not enough, of what’s not going on.

That statement may seem somewhat odd, but I assure you it is not. I can show you a million things, that’s, going on today. Let’s see, here’s some examples:

1. The trial of Major Nidal Hasan, the Army psychiatrist accused of killing 13 people and wounding dozens more in a Fort Hood shooting rampage, was temporarily halted today when a lawyer objected that Hasan was putting up no defense in an effort to get himself executed.

2.   Python That Killed 2 Boys Was Kept in House, Not in Pet Store  – The python that strangled two young boys this week did not escape from the pet store below the apartment where the boys slept, as previously believed, but was a house pet kept inside the apartment where they were visiting friends, authorities in Canada said.

3.  US Consumer Borrowing Rose $13.8 Billion in June  –  Americans borrowed more in June to buy cars and attend schools. But they were frugal again with their credit cards, indicating many are still wary of taking on high-interest debt.

4.  Cash-strapped Greek Animal Shelter Lets Online Users Kill Animals  -The current financial crisis in Greece has wide-ranging consequences for everyone, including their animal population.

5. Vandals Mark Racial Slurs, Images On Jackie Robinson Statue  — Vandals defaced a statue of Jackie Robinson outside the Brooklyn Cyclones baseball stadium, marking racial slurs and symbols on it, park and police officials said Wednesday.

6.  Ex-madam, seeking New York City office, faces prescription drug charges – A self-described “ex-madam” who claims she supplied fellow city comptroller candidate Eliot Spitzer with escorts several years ago is facing charges of illegally distributing prescription drugs, authorities said.

7.  What do pope’s remarks on gays mean? – Pope Francis ignited a firestorm on the Internet with a few words about gay and lesbian people that seemed to suggest a new church position on homosexuality. I say “seemed to” because it would only appear new to someone who was unfamiliar with the old position.

8. Over 48 years, GOP Strays Far From Voting Rights –  “Our country has changed,” wrote Chief Justice John Roberts on June 25, 2013, when five of the nine Supreme Court Justices dismantled the historic Voting Rights Act.

9. Castro a psychopath who will never feel remorse – “There are so many ways of being despicable it quite makes one’s head spin. But the way to be really despicable is to be contemptuous of other people’s pain.” — James Baldwin

10. Yemen foils a plot to attack ports, oil and gas facilities, official says –  Why is Yemen a focus of terror threat?

11.  Sun’s magnetic field about to flip, causing “ripple effect” – You won’t be able to see it, but it might affect the Earth’s climate — the sun’s magnetic field is going through a big change.

12. North Korea expanding Yongbyon nuclear complex, U.S. Institute says– A U.S.institute tracking North Korea’s nuclear weapons program says recent satellite photos show Pyongyang is doubling the size of its uranium enrichment plant, jibing with the country’s announced plans to expand technology that can be used both to create energy and the core of nuclear weapons.

13. Cyclospora outbreak may have multiple sources – The number of cyclospora cases has risen to over 400, as the FDA says it believes at least some of the cases may have been caused by a salad mix from a Mexican processing plant. What caused the widespread outbreak remains a mystery. Carter Evans reports.

14. How did low-level employees access national secrets?  – Whatever the motives of whistleblowers Edward Snowden and Bradley Manning, the obvious question that both these cases raise is how is it that an Army private and one of the guys on the National Security Agency’s IT help desk could wind up with access to some of the nation’s most closely guarded secrets?

15. Study finds modern word choices reflect a more self-centered culture Does anyone ever use the word “oblige” anymore?  The way in which the English language and word use changes over time says a lot about how Americans and Britons have become more self-centered, according to a new UCLA study released Wednesday.

I think you might have gotten  the idea about  all the things  going on around us daily…

But, we need to know some very important things about what’s not going on! When I say “what’s not going on, I mean: The things that should be important to us, that we give the least attention! We often neglect the things that should have a major hold on us. Rather it’s seen today or unseen today. Things in the natural realm or things in the spiritual realm. Things that have a major effect on our lives, right now today or in the distant future. Let me help you with that..

Say for instance a great storm came today, tomorrow or this week. Some of us will be prepared, but most of us won’t. Just say you have an underground tunnel built somewhere hoping to be saved. But let’s say the storm was so major that it destroyed everything, and I mean everything! What can you do? What can you say? After all the preparation, you still didn’t survive. Then What?

So may I ask, how are you with Jehovah Elohim? How are you with God our Creator and Saviour? How have you stood up for Him? How have you served Him? How have you lived for Him? How have you honored Him? How did you worship Him? How ? How? Did you try to lead other to Him as their Saviour?  Did you consider Our Lord being someone of interest and importance? Did you make time for Him, daily? How did you honor Him? Well you kinda get the idea.  Well the simplest way to honor God Yeshua is by, getting you a Holy Bible, studying it and living it on a daily basis. That’s the basic step. Next find you a serious church, that teaches the principles and concepts of God and Jesus Christ. If the church is the real church, and not one of the false churches, then you will grow in Christ. Now if the church asks for money all the time, for unnecessary reasons, and tells  you gonna get rich, then I’d think twice. Before the riches, money and fame, there has to be Christ Jesus. If it is teaching, that wealth comes before Christ, then run!
FirstIsaiah 55:6-7  “Seek the Lord while He may be found, Call upon Him while He is near. v.7 Let the wicked forsake his way, And the unrighteous man his thoughts;  Let him return to the Lord, and He will have mercy on him; And to our God, For He will abundantly pardon.
Second, Matthew 7:7 Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. v.8 For everyone who asks receives, and he who knocks it will be opened. v.9 Or what man is there among you who, if his son or daughter asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent?
Third, Luke 19: 10 for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.
Fourth, John 7:34 “You will seek Me, and not find Me,  and where I go you cannot come.”
Fifth, Philippians 2:21 For all seek their own, not the things which are of CHRIST JESUS.

Biopsychologist Says Religion Could Disappear by 2041 Because People Will Have Replaced God with Possessions –

  • Dr Nigel Barber’s book debunks the popular belief that religious groups will dominate atheistic ones because they collectively have more children
  • He said the market for formal religion is being squeezed by modern substitutes such as sport and entertainment in more developed countries
  • Added that atheists are heavily concentrated in richer countries and religion will decrease as individuals’ personal wealth increases
Religious people in many developed countries will be a minority by 2041, according to one Irish biopsychologist.
A study into the beliefs of people living in 137 countries, which forms the basis for a new book, found atheism increases in more developed places as people become increasingly materially rich.
