LIVING IN ARIEL!

 A Paraphrase of :  ISAIAH 29: 1-8  Woe to David’s City

29 Woe to you, Ariel, Ariel,
    the city where David settled!
Add year to year
    and let your cycle of festivals go on.
Yet I will besiege Ariel;
    she will mourn and lament,
    she will be to me like an altar hearth.
I will encamp against you on all sides;
    I will encircle you with towers
    and set up my siege works against you.
Brought low, you will speak from the ground;
    your speech will mumble out of the dust.
Your voice will come ghostlike from the earth;
    out of the dust your speech will whisper.

But your many enemies will become like fine dust,
    the ruthless hordes like blown chaff.
Suddenly, in an instant,
    the Lord Almighty will come
with thunder and earthquake and great noise,
    with windstorm and tempest and flames of a devouring fire.
Then the hordes of all the nations that fight against Ariel,
    that attack her and her fortress and besiege her,
will be as it is with a dream,
    with a vision in the night—
as when a hungry person dreams of eating,
    but awakens hungry still;
as when a thirsty person dreams of drinking,
    but awakens faint and thirsty still.
So will it be with the hordes of all the nations
    that fight against Mount Zion.

Given Name ARIEL
GENDER: Masculine & Feminine
OTHER SCRIPTS: אֲרִיאֵל (Hebrew), Αριηλ (Ancient Greek)
PRONOUNCED: AR-ee-əl (English), ER-ee-əl (English), AY-ree-əl (English)   [key]
Meaning & History
Means “lion of God” in Hebrew. In the Old Testament it is used as another name for the city of Jerusalem.

LIVING IN ARIEL/AMERICA…. can be quite a challenge, and to tell you the truth it is a challenge.

Living in Ariel is no joke. Once the model country, everybody looked up to you, everybody except the ones that knew the truth. But you looked down on everybody and every country that you deemed below you. You took the power in your hands that God gave you to do as you saw fit. But Ariel, the time came and will come again that you shall be brought low. You shall no longer be an influence to others. You will become a joke and powerless. But your evil shall cause u destruction in your own lands. You will turn on each other and laugh about it, you will kill and harm each other and laugh about it. Ariel you will become MY enemy AND Your burdens  will become heavy and you shall have much sorrow. And the Lord God is the only one that can bring you relief. I will have your enemies waiting in the balance to destroy you. AND I WILL LAY SEIGE AGAINST YOU. Your enemies shall rise against you AND THERE WILL BE MANY.  You will be able to do nothing about it. You will be brought low  and you will speak and no one will pay you any attention. The powerful voice that you once had will be un noticed now, it will be like a whisper no one hears anymore. ALL the strangers and the multitudes of the evil  will pass away quickly. BUT THE LORD will come to you in thunder, earthquakes, great noise, storms and temptations  with the flames of the devouring fires. All the nations will fight against you Ariel. But the fight they fight against you with all its ammunitions  which will distress you,  to you will be like a vision. Like when a hungry man dreams he is eating food, and in his dream he eats and gets full; but when he wakes up he is still hungry. Your soul is empty, nothing will fill it, except the Truth of God. Our  souls are empty. Look at the thirsty man when he dreams  in his dream he is drinking, but when he wakes up he is still faint and thirsty. His soul is hungry and wants a drink, so shall all the nations be also. THERE is nothing in the soul. But if you keep fighting against God you shall be destroyed and die with a hungry soul, a thirsty soul. But if you turn away from evil you shall have my Hand upon you again, and my protection.

 THE BLINDNESS OF DISOBEDIENCE

Be stunned and amazed,
    blind yourselves and be sightless;
be drunk, but not from wine,
    stagger, but not from beer.
10 The Lord has brought over you a deep sleep:
    He has sealed your eyes (the prophets);
    he has covered your heads (the seers).

11 For you this whole vision is nothing but words sealed in a scroll. And if you give the scroll to someone who can read, and say, “Read this, please,” they will answer, “I can’t; it is sealed.” 12 Or if you give the scroll to someone who cannot read, and say, “Read this, please,” they will answer, “I don’t know how to read.”

13 The Lord says:

“These people come near to me with their mouth
    and honor me with their lips,
    but their hearts are far from me.
Their worship of me
    is based on merely human rules they have been taught.[b]
14 Therefore once more I will astound these people
    with wonder upon wonder;
the wisdom of the wise will perish,
    the intelligence of the intelligent will vanish.”
15 Woe to those who go to great depths
    to hide their plans from the Lord,
who do their work in darkness and think,
    “Who sees us? Who will know?”
16 You turn things upside down,
    as if the potter were thought to be like the clay!
Shall what is formed say to the one who formed it,
    “You did not make me”?
Can the pot say to the potter,
    “You know nothing”?

Yes we come to you in pretend worship with our mouths, we pretend to honor you with our lips,  but our hearts are not in it. You have no fear for obeying the Lord anymore, because the commandments that you are taught now, today are written by men and not ME. But I will come to your rescue and deliver to you a marvelous wonder, because  the wise men are not wise but have become foolish. Nobody will understand, because I shall hide the truth. Yes you try to hide  your guidance from he Lord, because your works are done in the dark. You think nobody sees you, But I DO! You think nobody knows what you are doing in the dark, But I Do! BUT YOU HAVE GOTTEN THINGS TURNED AROUND, FROM THE INSIDE OUT. So I ask you, is the (God) potter the clay (humans)? Will the clay say to the potter, you did not make me. Or will the shape (humans) formed by the potter (God) say to the potter who formed me? Will you tell God He did not create you? Will you tell Him You did not make me? Will you tell God He has no understanding, and you don’t know us?

17 In a very short time, will not Lebanon be turned into a fertile field
    and the fertile field seem like a forest?
18 In that day the deaf will hear the words of the scroll,
    and out of gloom and darkness
    the eyes of the blind will see.
19 Once more the humble will rejoice in the Lord;
    the needy will rejoice in the Holy One of Israel.
20 The ruthless will vanish,
    the mockers will disappear,
    and all who have an eye for evil will be cut down—
21 those who with a word make someone out to be guilty,
    who ensnare the defender in court
    and with false testimony deprive the innocent of justice.

22 Therefore this is what the Lord, who redeemed Abraham, says to the descendants of Jacob:

“No longer will Jacob be ashamed;
    no longer will their faces grow pale.
23 When they see among them their children,
    the work of my hands,
they will keep my name holy;
    they will acknowledge the holiness of the Holy One of Jacob,
    and will stand in awe of the God of Israel.
24 Those who are wayward in spirit will gain understanding;
    those who complain will accept instruction.”

 You will be whipped enough until you will cry out to God. This can also apply to a people as well as to a Nation. When you become tired of someone’s wrath being aimed at you, eventually you will get tired and figure it out. If you do not figure it out, then you have no relations with the Bible. My chosen people should know better than to let the devil entice you to stoop so low. But because you want to be like the children of satan, then you shall suffer the same fate. Wake up my children, for you know from whence you have come. No one has been to the pit or tasted it like you, you did not send yourself to the pit, but others did. You felt hell, you lived in hell on earth, but I your God did deliver you. Others have suffered and you more.  Some has suffered like you, you know what is there, but yet you still lust after the world. You cannot live like the world and please me. You need to decide very soon who you will serve, me or satan. You cannot serve us both, but most of you think that you can. You are suppose to keep my name Holy, yet you do not. You are suppose to live Holy, but you do not. I have blessed you over and over, and when I say blessed you IT IS NOT MONEY ALL THE TIME. It is your joy, your health, your peace, happiness, your sane mind, being able to love one another, having a conscious that lets you know right from wrong or having good children or a good spouse and many, many more things I call blessings.  A family that has stayed together, while some even prays together. That is a blessed life. Nobody wants to be poor, but the poor shall be with you always as long as there is an earth. So since I said that in My Words, then I meant it!   Its always good to do better, live better (when that is said some think that means “living the good life”). What is the good life?  For lots of people they have no control of  financial wealth or for that matter any wealth, if that be so then everybody would be wealthy. And I MEAN EVERYBODY. Some of satan workers created ideas and plans and wrote books to make sure most living in the world, in all countries, would never see wealth, never touch wealth, and never live wealth.  That is why it was foretold to you in the Bible.  But remember if you a dead, what good is  financial wealth? Wealth is good only because some have made you think it is, made you feel like you or nothing if you do not have it. Financial wealth have created so many problems for the poor of the world. Yes having financial wealth u can move mountains, but can it heal you if you are dying of a terminal disease?  No! Can you call out to if when u really need a Savior? Can it buy you a place in Heaven? But it will buy you a place in Hell, especially if the heart is not right? How do I know? Read Matthew 19:23-24.

God does not show favoritism, because you think your country is better than another, He does not show favoritism because you have more money than another(man does), He does not show favoritism because your skin is lighter than another(man does), and He does not show favoritism because your leaders can tell a lies better than leaders from another country. He do not show favoritism  just because one country has more wealth than another. He does not show favoritism TO NO ONE, OVER ANOTHER( man does). We are all the same as He is concerned. We make differences, NOT GOD.  We demonstrate favoritism, NOT GOD. He loves us all. But He will show favor.. Let me remind you Favor and Favoritism is not the same thing.

FAVORITISM IS  ANOTHER FORM OF DISCRIMINATION  (can u find the word crime without the e and the word nation)  discrimination should be labeled a form of crime, which we all know its set up so that it can be very hard to prove it. ” A Nation that discriminates has a large Crime rate!  Why? Because nobody is unable to understand favoritism, favoritism is a action, a demonstration, and the one that receives seems to have a false sense of reality. (even children can see it, know it  and feel it) While on the other hand the one not receiving favoritism can actually see it  actually being demonstrated towards the ones receiving it. SO, therefore there is a sense of rejection that is their reality. When there is a sense of rejection being felt, the one feeling it can and will act out.

FAVOR– as defined by the Bible is a action of kindness, being demonstrated towards the one receiving it. God shows favor to the righteous. God has no favorites. He has a chosen people, which he deals with personally, he chose them but never favored them. He chose them to do the right things, and when they acted badly he sent His wrath, as a reminder of His favor and love towards them.

FAVORITISM– Is demonstrated through having a preference for someone or something. The one(s) receiving the favoritism is often considered to be the favorite. Showing a greater desire for that one, or that group. In favoritism when the groups acts badly, they are very seldom disciplined. Their sins get bigger and bigger and  becomes out of control. There is very seldom any wrath.

Psalm 30:5  For his anger is but for a moment, and his favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning.

Genesis 6:8  But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord.

Esther 2:15-18  When the turn came for Esther the daughter of Abihail the uncle of Mordecai, who had taken her as his own daughter, to go in to the king, she asked for nothing except what Hegai the king’s eunuch, who had charge of the women, advised. Now Esther was winning favor in the eyes of all who saw her. And when Esther was taken to King Ahasuerus, into his royal palace, in the tenth month, which is the month of Tebeth, in the seventh year of his reign, the king loved Esther more than all the women, and she won grace and favor in his sight more than all the virgins, so that he set the royal crown on her head and made her queen instead of Vashti. Then the king gave a great feast for all his officials and servants; it was Esther’s feast. He also granted a remission of taxes to the provinces and gave gifts with royal generosity.

 Proverbs 3:1-4  My son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments, for length of days and years of life and peace they will add to you. Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart. So you will find favor and good success in the sight of God and man.

Psalm 102:13  You will arise and have pity on Zion; it is the time to favor her; the appointed time has come.

Luke 2:52  And Jesus increased in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and man.

Genesis 18:3  And said, “O Lord, if I have found favor in your sight, do not pass by your servant.

Proverbs 3:33-35  The Lord‘s curse is on the house of the wicked, but he blesses the dwelling of the righteous. Toward the scorners he is scornful, but to the humble he gives favor. The wise will inherit honor, but fools get disgrace.

Proverbs 3:3-4  Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart. So you will find favor and good success in the sight of God and man.

Psalm 68:19 Blessed be the Lord, who daily bears us up; God is our salvation. Selah

2 Corinthians 9:8-9  And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work. As it is written, “He has distributed freely, he has given to the poor; his righteousness endures forever.”

2 Timothy 1:9  Who saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began,

Colossians 1:13-17  He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

These are just a few, there are many more that demonstrate the favor of God and give us the meaning of Gods favor.

We Americans will never be Ariel/ Jerusalem, but today we live as they did by disobeying God and causing Gods wrath to fall upon the face of the Earth. God wants up to obey His Words and live Holy lives. But because we have to contend with daily living in an ungodly world, which can be very hard to do. But God gave us so much help to enable us to live according to His plans for our lives. The temptation is great and we give in, but nothing can keep us from trying to live righteously, if we desire to do so.

Thanks for reading this blog. May you be able to more understand the WORDS OF GOD as written in the Bible!

A Few More Interesting Facts from 1000 More Things U Always Wanted 2 No About the Bible

The Author of the book is J. Stephen Lang
I think this is a fantastic book for DISCOVERING  some very interesting information that most might be interested in.

Chapter 1 of the book coversTitled———– SO MANY LEGENDS (only legends or hearsay)

#1  Colored Eggs at Easter

No, the Bible has nothing to say about Easter eggs. There is a n old legend  connected to Simon of Cyrene, the man who was forced to carry the Cross of Jesus to Calvary (Mark 15:21) Legend has it that Simon was an egg merchant so when he returned from seeing the Crucifixion , he found that all the eggs in his produce basket had miraculously turned a variety of bright colors. In an alternate version of the story, his eggs did not take on their beautiful coloring until the day of Christ’s resurrection–Easter that is.

#4  The Lion’s Cubs

Many animals such as cats are born blind (or more accurately with their eyes closed). An old legend has it that lion cubs are actually born dead, but come to life on the third day when the father lion breathes life into them. Tradition makes this a symbol of Christ, who came to life after the third day in the grave.

#5 The Donkey’s Cross

The donkey is a much mentioned Bible creature, notable in the life of Jesus for being the beast that carried Him into Jerusalem. Some people discern a sort of cross-shaped mark on the donkey’s shoulders, which is why they say, a symbol of having carried Christ.

#12  Lazarus’s  Second Life

What became of Lazarus after Jesus raised him from the dead? (John 11) The Bible does not say, but the people of the island of Cyprus have an idea: Lazarus became an evangelist and later became the island’s bishop. He is buried, tradition says, in the white  limestone Church of St. Lazarus— his second grave. Over his tomb is the inscription ” Lazarus, a friend of Christ”.

Chapter 2  The Bible Versus the Modern World

#37  Chapter and Verse

Author Mike Bryan, a professed agnostic, did a curious thing: he enrolled in Criswell College, an extremely conservative Southern Baptist college in Dallas, to find out if Bible-believing Christians were as horrible as he thought. To his surprise, he liked them, and they treated him with warmth and kindness. His 1991 book, Chapter and Verse, has the subtitle A Skeptic Revisits Christianity. After his stay at Criswell, Bryan is still a skeptic, but one with a fresh respect for Christians who take the Bible seriously. The title, of course comes from conservative Christians’ habit of backing up their beliefs with specific quotes from the Bible—-“chapter and verse”.   http://www.nytimes.com/1991/08/18/books/a-stranger-within-their-gates.html

# 44  The RSV (Revised Standard Version) Fracas

Few Bible versions have been greeted with as much animosity as the Revised Standard Version, published in 1952.  A few preachers actually burned the new Bible to show their feelings for it, and there were numerous pamphlets with titles such as –  The bible of antichrist, The new blasphemous bible, Whose unclean fingers have tampered with God’s Holy Bible? the  new bible: why Christians should not accept it, and so on. History was repeating itself: most great versions of the past, such as Luther’s Tyndale’s even (centuries ago) the Latin Vulgate, faced opposition for the obvious reason that people are bothered by change. Of course , the fact the RSV was sponsored by the National Council of Churches(with a well-deserved reputation for being liberal) bothered many conservatives. Another reason to remember: no translation is perfect, and there were some valid criticism of the RSV, as there will be of any translation. But some criticisms were downright silly-changing “thou” to “you” example, a change that most people would now approve.  http://ncccusa.org/newbtu/aboutrsv.html      https://www.ministrymagazine.org/archive/1953/02/the-revised-standard-version

#45  The Ecumenical Movement

There is no shortage of Christian denominations and independent churches. Most Christians accept this situation, but others claim that many divisions are a scandal. Many Christians have taken seriously Jesus’ word to His disciples regarding the “one fold, and one shepherd” (John 10:16 KJV) and His prayer that His followers “all may be one” (John 17:21 KJV). The ecumenical movement is the basic attempt to unite Christians – spiritually, if not organizationally. This resulted in Interdenominational coöperation and sometimes the merging of denominations. But the attempt to unite the churches has resulted in some very liberal bureaucracies, notably the National Council of Churches and the World Council of Churches. http://www.propheticrevelation.com/misc/ecumove.htm

Living In A Secular World (still in chap.2)     #46  Back To Middletown

One of the most famous sociological studies ever done in America was undertaken by Robert and Helen Lynd, who did a close-up study of the city of Muncie, Indiana and published the famous book : Middletown- A Study in Contemporary American Culture (1992)        http://www.pbs.org/fmc/segments/progseg4.htm                                                                                                                                       The Lynds considered “Middletown” to be a typical American town, so when they studied it n the 1920’s they discovered that most of its residents believed in the sacredness of the Bible, the reality of heaven and hell, and the divinity of Jesus. But something changed RADICALLY in the 1930″s for when the Lynds studied Muncie during that decade, they found that people no longer held to their beliefs, and with not the same certainty. Their book in 1937  The Middletown in Transition showed that science and secularism had taken their toll on the  American belief systems.             https://www.southern.edu/history/Documents/McArthur/American%20History%20II/Middletown.pdf

 #50 ACLU VS. TEN COMMANDMENTS

In May 2000, the American Civil Liberties Union found another reason to complain(and sue): it seemed the country seal of Richmond County, Georgia contains an image of two stone tablets with Roman Numerals I through X. The stone tablets represents the Ten Commandments. The ACLU, no friend of the Bible, cited the usual argument about “separation of church and state”, and thus the country seal could not have an image from the Bible , and so on ….                                        https://www.aclu.org/news/aclu-ga-sues-local-officials-over-ten-commandments-image-county-seal     https://www.questia.com/newspaper/1G1-63956349/aclu-sues-county-over-seal-with-2-stone-tablets-ten              http://www.firstamendmentcenter.org/aclu-to-appeal-ruling-allowing-commandments-on-court-seal

#52 Ohio, The Bible, and the Modern World

The state motto of Ohio is a quote from the Bible: “With God  all things are possible”. (Matt.19:26). Inevitably the forces of secularism had to protest this, citing the usual issue of “separation of church and state”. In May 2000 a Federal Appeals Court ruled that the Motto was indeed unconstitutional.                                                                                                 http://www.statesymbolsusa.org/symbol-official-item/ohio/state-motto-state-quarter/god-all-things-are-possible                  http://ohiohistorycentral.org/w/Ohio’s_State_Motto?rec=1885

 Chapter 5   CUSTOME OF CHRISTIANS

#198.  “In Remembrance of Me”

These words are carved on many churches’ Communion tables. They are from I Corinthians 11:23-26, which quotes Jesus’ words to His disciples at the Last Supper: “This do… in remembrance of me” (KJV). Many Christians believe the Lord’s Supper is just that – a remembrance of the original Last Supper, a kind of memorial meal. For centuries Christiana fought over this issue, some believing it is just a memorial ( called consubstantiation), others believing that in the ritual the bread and wine literally become the body and the blood of Christ( called transubstantiation).  http://biblehub.com/luke/22-19.htm       http://www.bible.ca/interactive/worship-14-communion.htm                                                                  http://www.learnthebible.org/partaking-of-the-lords-supper.html

Thanks for reading, u are much-loved, and be blessed in Christ Jesus, everyday! 🙂

(More Nippets from The 1000 More Things You Always Wanted To Know About the Bible

From the Book: 1000 More Things You Always Wanted To Know About The Bible by Stephen Lang

Chapter 2   THE BIBLE VERSUS the MODERN WORLD

#23  Divine Creation vs. Darwin   According to intellectuals, the 1925 Scopes trial (also known as the “monkey trial”) settled forever the question of whether the Bible was reliable as a science textbook. Technically, teacher John Scopes was found guilty for teaching evolution in his science class, but the worldwide audience that followed the trial felt that Scopes – and Darwin’s theory of evolution – won the day. But not so fast: in the 1090s some school boards began to modify their views on the subject. Scientist who take new findings  seriously began to question whether Darwin was as wise as they thought. And Christians not always willing to roll over and play dead when confronted with a secular worldview, had pressed for school systems to at least teach the possibility that God created the world (and not necessarily in six twenty-four-hour day, following Genesis1). The battle is still on, a battle not just between religion and secularism, but between unbelievers and those who think the deep kerned of truth in Genesis I ( that a personal God created the world with a purpose) is still deserving a hearing in our schools. (p. 11)

Chapter 2  THE BIBLE VERSUS the MODERN WORLD

#52 Ohio, the BIBLE, and The Modern World

The State Motto of Ohio is a quote from the Bible: ” With God All Things Are Possible” (Matt. 19:26) Inevitably the forces of secularism had to protest this, citing the usual issue of “separation of church and state”. In May 2000 a federal appeals court ruled that the motto was indeed unconstitutional. (p. 27)

Chapter 4  WHAT THE FAMOUS SAID

#103  Ralph Waldo Emerson

The essays of Emerson (1803-1882) used to be required readings for every schoolchild, and he is still quite readable. The man known as a Transcendentalist was hardly a Christian in the usual sense, but he did  have a deep respect for the Bible. In fact, Emerson noted that mankind would probably never get rid of the Bible, even if it wished to: ” Pitch it out the window and bounce, it comes back again”, He claimed that the Bible was “the most original book in the world”. “The alphabet  of the nations, and an engine of education of the first power.” (p. 52)

 Chapter 4  WHAT THE FAMOUS SAID

# 112  Uncle Tom’s Author

Harriet Beecher Stowe gave the world the poplar anti slavery novel Uncle Tom’s Cabin, and people often forgot that she was a devout Christian. She credited the Bible not with giving her amoral foundation but also with stimulating creativity: ” I am certain that the constant contact of the Bible with my childish mind was a great mental stimulant, as it certainly was the cause of a singular and vague pleasure”. (p. 56)

Chapter 5  CUSTOMS OF CHRISTIANS

#178  SALT AND HOLY WATER

“Holy water” is water that has been blessed for use in Christian rituals.  It is ordinary tap water, to which a pinch of salt has been added, that has had a blessing pronounced over it by a priest. The Bible says nothing whatsoever about such a practice, but the use of salt in the water has a biblical origin: Jesus told His followers they were to be the  “salt of the earth” Matt. 5:13, and the salt has a long symbolized purity and preservation. (p. 88)

Chapter 5  CUSTOMS OF CHRISTIANS

#184 CLOSED COMMUNION

In many Churches, Communion is “open”- that is, anyone in the church may receive the bread and the wine that are used for the offering. The New Testament itself had a much stricter standard. The Apostle Paul told the Corinthians Christians that “whoever eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and the blood of the Lord. But let a man examine himself … For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself…                    I Corinthian 11:27-29.  In other words, Christians needed to be right with God and their neighbor before taking Communion. Paul may also have meant that Communion was only for those people who understand its meaning; thus non-believers should not take Communion. In time past pastors sometimes met with their members before Communion to determine if they were spiritually ready to receive it. This was “closed Communion”, which can also refer to denominations that you be a member of their group before taking Communion. (p. 91)

Chapter 6  THE JOYS (and WOES ) OF TRANSLATING

#216  DYNAMIC EQUIVALENCE

Translating the Bible involves taking two ancient languages (Hebrew & Greek) and trying to make them understandable to modern people speaking  entirely different.  One common question for translators is this: Do we try to make the translation’s words follow the same pattern as in Greek and Hebrew, or do we try to make the ideas the same? When translators strive to make the words and sentences as much like the original languages as possible, this is known as formal equivalence. When the translators strive to communicate the ideas it is known as  dynamic equivalence. Translators argue often about what is the  “best” method, but truth is that all translations end up being some form of compromise between formal equivalence and dynamic equivalence. (p. 105)

Chapter 7  SOME CURIOUS BELIEFS AND PRACTICES

#299  VEGETARIAN CHRISTIANS

Among the more curious versions of the Bible ever published was one done by American vegetarianism advocate Olive Pell. Her version of he Bile, published in 1852,  “cleaned up” the King James Version, not only by taking out all the sex and violence  but also by removing all references to eating meat. Miss Pell believed that true believers would frown on anything but pure vegetarianism. (p. 143)

Chapter 8   BACK IN THE U.S.A

# 394   In Spring of 2000, the state of Indiana passed a law allowing public buildings to display the Ten Commandments. The law was an obvious slap at the American Civil Liberties Union and its containing (and effective) efforts to strip all evidence of the Bible and Christianity from public life. (p. 159)

Chapter 8   BACK IN THE U.S.A

# 327  MANNA FOR BREAKFAST

The cereal that later became well-known as Post Toasties first, had the very biblical name Elijah’s Manna (which is slightly wrong, since Elijah the prophet was fed by ravens in the wilderness, but it was not manna they brought him, manna being the miracle food provided for the Israelites in the days of Moses.) (p. 161)
