Slave or Not?

Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration commemorating the ending of slavery in the United States. Dating back to 1865, it was on June 19th that the Union soldiers, led by Major General Gordon Granger, landed at Galveston, Texas with news that the war had ended and that the enslaved were now free. Note that this was two and a half years after President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation – which had become official January 1, 1863. The Emancipation Proclamation had little impact on the Texans due to the minimal number of Union troops to enforce the new Executive Order. However, with the surrender of General Lee in April of 1865, and the arrival of General Granger’s regiment, the forces were finally strong enough to influence and overcome the resistance.

Later attempts to explain this two and a half-year delay in the receipt of this important news have yielded several versions that have been handed down through the years. Often told is the story of a messenger who was murdered on his way to Texas with the news of freedom. Another, is that the news was deliberately withheld by the enslavers to keep up the labor force on the plantations. And still another, is that federal troops actually waited for the slave owners to reap the benefits of one last cotton harvest before going to Texas to enforce the Emancipation Proclamation. All of which, or neither of these version could be true.  For whatever the reasons, conditions in Texas, to keep things as they were, well beyond what was statutory.

General Order Number 3

One of General Granger’s first orders of business was to read to the people of Texas, General Order Number 3 which began most definitely with:

“The people of Texas are informed that in accordance with a Proclamation from the Executive of the United States, all slaves are free. This involves an absolute equality of rights and rights of property between former masters and slaves, and the connection heretofore existing between them becomes that between employer and free laborer.”

Freedom Celebration

The reactions to this profound news ranged from pure shock to immediate jubilation. While many lingered to learn of this new employer to employee relationship, many left before these offers were completely off the lips of their former ‘masters’ – attesting to the varying conditions on the plantations and the realization of freedom. Even with nowhere to go, many felt that leaving the plantation would be their first grasp of freedom. North was a logical destination and for many it represented true freedom, while the desire to reach family members in neighboring states drove the some into Louisiana, Arkansas and Oklahoma. Settling into these new areas as free men and women brought on new realities and the challenges of establishing an heretofore non-existent status for black people in America. Recounting the memories of that great day in June of 1865 and its festivities would serve as motivation as well as a release from the growing pressures met in their new territory. The celebration of June 19th was coined “Juneteenth” and grew with more participation from descendants. The Juneteenth celebration was a time for reassuring each other, for praying and for gathering remaining family members. Juneteenth continued to be highly revered in Texas decades later, with many former slaves and descendants making an annual pilgrimage back to Galveston on this date.

The freedom message reached different parts of African-American Slaves on various dates between 1863-1864

The Thirteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution abolished slavery and involuntary servitude, except as punishment for a crime. It was passed by the Senate on April 8, 1864, by the House on January 31, 1865, and adopted on December 6, 1865. On December 18, 1865, Secretary of State William H. Seward proclaimed its adoption. It was the first of the three Reconstruction Amendments adopted following the American Civil War.

So now knowing that, are you slave or free? I would say I am free, but is that really the truth? You would say you are free, but is that really true?

According to us, yes it’s true. So freedom it is. Does that make it so because we say so. Does that mean we are because laws and constitutions say we are? Does that make it so? If your parent tells you to do something,  do you have to do it? If you don’t what happens? If the Mayor of a city tells you to do something and you don’t, what happens? When the Governor tells you to do something and you don’t, what happens? If the police tells you to do something and you don’t what happens? If your doctor tells you to do something and you don’t, what happens? Are you getting the point? So are we really free?   We are free physically, but are we free mentally? Many of us say, yes. Some of us are. But the majority of us are not. Some of us remember things, some of us do things, and some of us live through things. Some of the things we go through causes us to wonder are we really free?  Being free to do as you please can cause some of us to lose our freedom!  Is our minds really free? No we worry about all sorts of things.  We worry about tomorrow, when we shouldn’t. W e worry about things that we fear when we shouldn’t. We worry about what the day or night may bring, when we shouldn’t. So are we free?

The US slaves were set free, but worries about the unknown, caused doubt.  When given a chance to enjoy real freedom  most were hesitant. How would you react? Or would you choose to stay in the same old situation, because of fear of the unknown. Some have never experienced slavery, but most have; rather they know it or not!  It starts in the mind. Slavery has to be in  the mind of the person.  You can be a slave and be free, or you can be free and still be a slave!

Speaking of Slavery!

Every major ancient civilization depended heavily on the service of slaves, conquered people set to a variety of tasks by their masters.  The scripture states that the Hebrews became slaves of the Egyptians,  under whom they carried out forced labor ‘in mortar, in brick, and all manner of services in the field’. Exodus 1:8-14

During the time of Apostle  Paul the in the Roman empire over half the population or more may have been slaves.  Depending  on the interest of the ruling masters. Joseph was sold as a slave to the Egyptian Potiphar.

Then Daniel and other young Hebrew males were taken into captivity to Babylon., where they were trained for high levels of government services.                                                                                                Daniel 1:1-7, 18-21

The majority of slaves in those days were often used as property to be bought and sold as needed. Males were often assigned construction  or in mines to dig and worked so until exhausted to death. The women were maid servant, were usually sold to well to do men for service to their wives or daughters . But most were used for sexual pleasures for men.

But not all slavery was between nations, according to the Old Testaments the Israelites had both Jewish and Gentile slaves. The Jews who were too poor to pay their debts or who were convicted of theft sometimes sold themselves into slavery. In  contrast to other cultures of the day the Jewish law protected slaves and even granted them certain rights.                                                                                                          Exodus 21:2-11, Leviticus.25:39-55, Deuteronomy.21:10-14

If you would like to know more , it all located in the Bible.

However, I must say, when it comes to slavery, it can be a terrible thing for anyone. Being a slave is no fun! Being used against your will is terrible for the one being used. I know in the US slavery was a welcomed entity, however some greatly opposed the Institution of Slavery. If I may, I would like everyone reading this article to take a moment; stop reading and close your eyes and think back. Now let your mind wonder what would have been if….. or  place yourself in the moment, and time. Let yourself become a slave. Go back to the plantation and  stand before your master and go inside the mind and body of a slave. You for a moment become the slave. Look upon your master’s face and see his frowns, and the yelling and the whip sliding across your back. Stop and look at your children being snatched away from you, to be sold right before your eyes. Look at your wife being sold, or your husband being sold. You hear your daughter screaming from the barn, while she is being raped by  the massa or the massa’s son. ALL YOU CAN DO IS STAND THERE AND ENDURE THE PAIN. You are waken up every day around 4:00 am to go into the fields to pick and package cotton. Your fingers hurt, your back hurt, your legs hurt and your stomach hurts. No where to run, nowhere to hide. You are A SLAVE, and you ain’t nothin but a black nigger, who deserves to be treated like a nothing and a nobody. You hear all the names you are being called, you hear about all the beatings they enjoy giving, you hear about all the lynchings. But what can you do! What can you do!  The only thing you can do is PRAY!  You have no identity anymore, you have no home anymore, you have your heritage stolen, you have you history stolen, you are nothing and nobody but a slave. You work, work, work and work for them but where is your wealth! It’s been stolen too. Now you can come back. Now why do you hate  me? Can you feel the hurt and the pain. That’s the story of a slave!

Steal Away, Steal Away to Jesus

We’ll stand the storm

 Sweet Canaan

“Go down Moses Way down in Egypt land. Tell  ole Pharoah, Let my people go”

slavery-black-slaves-back-littered-with-scars-from-whipping[1] “O, freedom over me. And before I’d be a slave I’ll be buried in my grave An go home to my Lord An’ be free”

But God is forgiving and so are we!

God has forgiven!

Now as for slaves, I can be a slave, you can be a slave, we all can be slaves, to the unforseen!  We could all be slaves behind money, or a slave to drugs, strong drinks, sex, racism, a slave to hatred, a slave to the anti-christ spirit. We could be a slave to a lawlessness rebellious nature. Then again we can be a slave to deceiving others, or a slave to lying to others, or a slave of being attracted to the same-sex person, or a slave to bad addictions, a slave to corruption, or maybe a slave to sin. Maybe you can have a murdering spirit, anger, or suicidal, or a slave to divination, of fear of thing and other people. There are so, so many things you can be a slave to. So that is why I said earlier;  Are we  really free. I know some of us are slave free. We have no slave in us or over us. But for some of us we are a slave to something. The things that we are a slave to, can be to the death of us. Say for instance you would like to get rid of your slave, but you can’t, because it’s so hard to depart yourself from your slave, when you think about all the profit you will lose.

Back to slavery: Once the slaves were declared free it was so hard for some to walk away. Addictions can be as addictive as slavery. Both were and is so hard to let go, to get rid of. If you are addicted too any thing you can stop being addicted over night you usually have to go and get some help. So being a slave to something or someone is not healthy.

Remove the chain of prisoners, who are chained unjustly. Free those who are abused!

These are all some type of addiction, so if addicted then “You Are A Slave”.

1. Being a slave is hurtful.

2. It destroys you and others.

3. Being a slave is losing something dear to you.

4. Being a slave is TO BE  taken away from the things you love.

5. Being a slave is having no say so about anything.

6. Being a slave, you have to do as your master tell you.

7. Being a slave is a killer.

8. Being a slave is having your real identity taken away from you!

9.  Being a slave means you have no life, but the life your master has chosen for you.

10. Being a slave takes away your pride., self – identity and  originality of the person you once were!

I’m sure you know what I mean. When you become a slave you lose all of self you belong to what ever or whom has the control or power over you. So can you imagine how slaves in US history must have felt. You were somebody in your homeland,  then you came here as a slave and lost everything, your identity, your namesake, your family, our health, your culture, you get the idea.

“And ye shall hallow the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof: it shall be a jubilee unto you and ye shall return every man unto his possessions, and ye shall return every man unto his family.” Leviticus 25:10 KJV

Many of our ancestors were brought here more than  one hundred years ago: many of our Fathers, many of ourselves have fought and bled for the independence of our country. Do not expose us to sale. Let not the spirit of the father behold the son robbed of that liberty which he died to establish, but let the motto of our legislature be: The law knows no distinction”. James Forten (1766-1842)

I know some of you are asking today, ‘How long will it take?” I come to say to you this afternoon however difficult the moment, however frustrating the hour, it will not be long, because truth pressed to earth will rise again. How long? Not long, because no lie can live forever. How long? Not long because you reap what you sow. How long? Not long, because the arm of the moral universe is long, but it hands toward justice.” Martin Luther King Jr. (1929-1968)

Freedom is a hard-fought thing and millions are in chains, but they strain towards the new day drawing near. Paul Roberson (1898-19760)

Your petitioner therefore prays your Honorable Court to grant him leave to sue as a poor person, in order to establish his right to freedom. Dred Scott (1795-1858)

BUT !  THERE WAS AND IS ONE AND ONLY ONE-WAY OUT!  HOPE IN JESUS CHRIST. Some chose to die at their own hand than to suffer at the hands of their slave owners. BUT THE HERO’S WAY OUT WAS TO ACCEPT JESUS CHRIST INTO YOUR LIKE AND BELIEVE, HE WOULD COME THROUGH FOR YOU! SO ITS TIME NOW TO GIVE IT TO JESUS CHRIST!

In every human  Breast, God has implanted a Principle, which we call Love and Freedom; it is impatient of Oppression, and pants for Deliverance; and by the Leave of our Modern Egyptians I will assert, that the same Principle lives within us.                                                          Phillis Wheatley (1753-1784)

When the day comes and you have been set free – YOU REJOICE! Because you have been set free!

Father, Oh, Lord Our God and Saviour Jesus Christ, we call upon you Father to heal the land and Father please set your captives free. Lord on High we need you to day, Lord we Thank You today. God you are our Father and we need you in our live so that we can live for you. Lord we need you in our live to see the world and the people in it through Your eyes. Lord you are Our Keeper, Our Deliverer, Our Protector, and Our Master. Lord Our Father, help us humble ourselves so that we may be able to love others as you love us. Lord Jesus please God, keep us in Your hands so that we may not destroy each other. Lord kill the hatred in each of us. Lord help the world heal. Lord and I pray for the heads of states and the heads of the nation. Lord please clean their hearts, help them understand that we were created to serve you in the Highest.  Lord let them see that every decision affects the masses. So Lord help them turn from their wicked ways and turn to You once again. In Jesus ‘ Name I Pray Amen, Amen, and Amen!!! Father heal the Land!

Well Then… I Offer You All of Me

Love being in love!

A Love Story!

Have you ever loved someone? Have you ever been loved by someone? I’m not talking about being infatuated by someone. I mean loving someone so strong that you live for that person and forget about yourself? Loving someone so strong that the person you love is like King or Queen; and you are just a on call guard in their royal court. You think about that person day and night. You daydream about the person all day and all night? You can’t focus correctly because the person is all you think about. The worst type of love is wanting and loving someone you can never have.  Well I know you’re getting the idea.

true love

You can only truly love me in the holy spirit of true love!

Well today I’m going to talk about love and being in love. But the love I’m taking about is an uncommon love. It’s a kind of love that you’d probably never imagine. It’s can in other words be called “The Greatest Romance , That’s Ever Been Told” (Prince Roger Nelson, aka. PRINCE)

Now loving someone can be very hard work,, especially if they can’t or won’t love you back!

6. sexual intercourse; copulation.

10. the object or thing so liked: The theater was her great love.
11. the benevolent affection of God for His creatures, or the reverent affection due from them to God.

Now let’s get to the point!

Love

it’s love

Do You Want Me?

So I give you the greatest thing you could ever possibly want, so here I am. I say here I am! Do you want me or not? I’m giving you all of me. I want to know all there is to know about you, and I want you to know all there is to know about me. You are the best thing that has ever happened to me. And I am never gonna let you go. Did you hear? I am never gonna let you go! You belong me, and I belong to you! We have got to be together. No one will or can stand in our way. NO-ONE. You can have anything that I have or anything that I am. You can have it all. We can become one! We are one! Don’t leave me ever. Don’t give up on me. Don’t ever leave me or let me go. Hold me like you are holding on for dear life. Please love me and let me love you! Let’s love forever. Let’s let no one come between us. No one can take you from me. No one can take me from you. We belong. Look at me and look in my eyes. Believe the words I am speaking to you. I love you. Although we are far from each other, we are very near. Our hearts are one. We can’t reach out and touch each other,  but we can reach out and touch each others hearts. I love you! I love you. Do you know what love is, do you know how to love? Do you know how to love me? I believe in my heart I can love you. I know I can love you.  I also know you can love me! Yes you can love me. Love me. Love me! Love only me! Only me! Yes you can love me! Because I love you! Yes I said we are so far from each other, but love is stronger. Why? Because, I love you so; there is no bond stronger than love. Yes love is stronger than distance. Yes love is stronger than time. Yes love is stronger than will. Yes love is stronger than plight. Yes love is stronger than might. Yes love is stronger than hope. So give me hope! Yes love is stronger than I. It is also stronger than you. Love is you. Love is me. Love is …. So can you see what I’m saying, can you feel what I’m saying to you? I don’t care about your past love or loves. It does not matter to me. Just love me…right now!

Don’t look back at lost time and lost loves. Live right now for me. Seek me, I am here. I am going nowhere. I am yours. I always was, and always will be. The time is now for us. It was planned so very long ago. You will never know. But I do. When it’s meant to be – it will. If it’s not meant to be – it won’t. Oh give thanks, for we have found each other. Never to be separated ever again. Love me! Love me darling!! We are only allotted a certain amount of time to live. So darlings oh please, live the rest of your life with me. It was not by chance you found me, when you did. And it was not by chance I responded to you, when you called me. There you were pretending to be an angel flying in the sky, you approached me, started talking and I looked up at you and answered you. Ever since that time, I cannot and have not been able to get you out of my mind. Darling I love You! I ask you why you approached me; why didn’t you just leave me alone; I was fine without you in my life. But I know since you entered my life nothing for me has been the same. I can’t sleep, I can’t eat. I guess I’m love sick for you. There is no one else like you. You are perfect in my sight. There is nobody else like you! Sometimes when I try to understand your words I am at a loss. But love is multi-linguistic. Even though I can’t physically touch you, I still love you.  In the past I had eaten of the fruit satan had to offer me. But since you found me, all I want is YOU!  You really are my angel, darling. Nobody and nothing but You! I cry for you, I want to feel your touch. I want to feel your lips. I want to feel your heartbeat next to mine. But I am very patient because one day I know I will. For I am yours and you are mine! You have so much to offer me, and I have so much to offer you,  I am willing to accept! Willing to accept you as my beloved! Yes I want you, so do you want me?

He loves me!

He found me 1st!   This is my Song to you; my Love!

Taken from the Bible: Songs of Songs – King Solomon

This is my Song to You!
You are better than wine to me. Your name is like an ointment poured forth, from a cup overflowing with the perfect wine. Please draw to me so I can run after you. You took me to your chamber, we swung together in the swing, and you comforted me. You held me close to your breath, never letting me go or fall. You stroked my neck and face. We were very high up in the trees, you let me see the beauty of the trees and the moon and the stars. I was glad and happy, to be there. You never demanded that I lay with you, not even the thought crossed my mind or yours. I rejoiced in you, today and forever. I will remember you more than wine. The upright love you shared. We loved with our eyes, never the touch.
I Am Black And Beautiful!

Solomon's Beloved!

I am Black!

Oh my color didn’t matter to you, yet you loved me! Yes I am black and comely, but O you Son of Royal Things. Look not upon me and see only the color of my skin. Tell me oh love, does the color of my skin really make the person or the soul? Tell me O thou whom my soul loveth. Oh yes I am a woman, to do the things a woman do and my skin has no place to stop that. But behold you my love thou are fair, and have pigeon eyes. Behold thou are fair, my beloved yea, pleasant; also our bed is green. The beams of our houses are cedar, and our rafters of fir. You are the Rose of Sharon and the lily of the valleys. As the apple tree among the trees of the wood, so is my beloved among the sons. I sat down under your shadow with great delight, and your fruit was sweet to my taste. Oh my love, you are lover of pigeon in the clefts of the rock, in the secret places of the stairs, let me see thy counternance, let me hear thy voice, for sweet is thy voice, for sweet is thy voice, and thy counternance is comely. My beloved is mine, and I am His.

Beloved

My Beloved!

At night on my knees as I pray I seek you, I seek you whom my soul loveth. As the day was upon me I had a chance to worship you, but why did I wait until the night? I will rise now,  and go about the city streets and Inspire Park in the city streets and in the broad way I will seek Him whom my soul loveth; I sought Him but found Him not. I will rise, to go about the city in the streets  and in the broad ways  I will seek you, love. But I find you not. I go everywhere seeking you.  I go looking for you my love!  I moan for you. But you are not there. I should have thought to seek you while it was day, but instead I waited until the night to seek you. My love what can I find at night? Will it be you, Love? You came to me in the day and I turned away, so in the night I miss you and all you had to offer. But now I want it! Is it too late love?  I seek whom my soul loveth!  The watchman that go about the city found me.To them I said , Have you seen Him? Have you seen my love? Do you know exactly where I can find Him?

Song of Songs

King Solomon Writings

But I found you, the only one my soul loveth. I hold you and will never let you go. I hold you until I bring you into my house, my heart. Behold He had went away to prepare me a bed, which is His. and the valiant men protect it. It is only for me. He prepared it for me and the one my soul loveth! He fills the room with perfume with myrrh, frankincense, with all the powders of the merchants only of all Royal things! He has prepared to protect from all my enemies. Each man He has assigned holds a sword, being an expert in war and warfare. Each royal man has a royal sword  upon his thigh because each knows exactly what things comes in the night! No I shall not fear you are here my dear!  Love until the day break, and the shadows flee away, I will get me to the mountain of love, and to the hill of peace. Love you have ravished my heart with your eyes, and with the chains on thy neck! How much better is your love than any wine! How sweet is your smell. I can smell it a million miles away! Sweeter than any spice. Your lips are like ripe juicy dates from, the date tree. Honey and milk are under my tongue, the smell of you is so intoxicating! When I lay on my pillow I smell you. When I rise I smell you. You are addicting. A garden of roses, is enclosed in your yard.Your plants are an orchard of sweet pomegranates, with pleasant fruits.  A fountain of gardens, a well of living waters, and never-ending streams. Let my beloved come into His garden.

I come into your garden, because that is the place you love! I come into the garden, because I know that I will find you there. I rose up off my knees to see you there. You wait while I finish my prayers. You wait for my hand . You are patient my love.  All my searching has paid off. I know, because I seek my heart, and the answer lies there. The others they smote me. They wounded me. They took away the veil. There have been others that have competed for your love. Other women that you can love even more than me, that is even closer to you than I am. Oh they squabble for your touch.  I know that I am no better than the next fair maiden. I am not the fairest among women.

Jesus is my Beloved and I am His!

I am Jesus’ Beloved!

And beloved you are white and ruddy, the chiefest among 10 thousand. Your head is as the most fine of men. Your locks were as bushy and black as a raven. Your eyes are as the eyes of  a pigeon by the rivers of waters that you often feed the geese bread.

Your cheeks are happy cheeks, your lips are juicy. Your hands wear your rings well,  Your golden hands , and your beautiful belly is always protected, because it is not what goes into the man , but what comes out that defiles.  Your legs are perfect.Lean strong and straight. Your mouth is yours and you should guard it well. You are my beloved. You are my friend!

Loving can be such a beautiful thing!

A beautiful love!

So where has thy beloved gone?  My beloved has gone down into His garden to the beds of spices, to feed the cats, the pigeon and the geese, in the garden, to gather the roses. I am my beloved’s and my beloved is mine. Thou are beautiful, O my love. Come to me. Don’t turn away thy eye from me because I am Black. Yes my hair is as a flock of goats that appear from Gilead. Thy teeth are as a flock of sheep which go up from the washing, whereof every one beareth twins, and there is not one barren among them! As a piece of a pomegranate are thy temples within thy locks. There are plenty upon plenty of queens, and fourscore concubines, and virgins without number.  My love is undefiled and is but one. Oh yes I have beautiful feet, for I am a prince’s daughter. My face is like carmel and the hair is wooly. But you love me! I will hold on to you and never let you go. Don’t look at my skin look at my heart. So come my love, let us go to the fields. I am your beloved and you are mine. I am yours and your desire is for me.Your left hand shall be under my head and your right hand  shall embrace me. Set me as a seal upon thine heart. As a seal upon your arm, for love is strong as death; jealousy is cruel as the grave. Many waters cannot quench love,  neither can the floods drown it: if a man would give all the substance of his house for love, it would utterly be contemned. Love me and let me love you, my beloved!!

My Beloved

The best love!

When you can love someone unconditionally even when you know they hate you, then that is true love. God loves without conditions.Seek Him as you would a love. Seek Him as you would, as if being in real love. Real love is what God gives us. It’s time to return the love. Return the love to God, Jesus is seriously waiting on you. It’s not that hard to do.
